1936~1974
Fadel Group was established in 1936 in Beirut - Lebanon by its founder Fouad N. Fadel and his brother Toufic N. Fadel. The Latter came back in 1945 from a long banking career in Italy. Fouad & Toufic Fadel & Co was the first Company in the Group. It represented the interests of the Finnish Paper Mills Association under Finnpap, Finnboard and Finncell (and Converta) in Lebanon. This covered most of the Finnish production of pulp, paper, board and tissue paper.
In 1954, the second Company was established under the name Droguerie Fouad Fadel & Co. – Chaoui & Fadel. Both Mr. Emile Chaoui and Mr. Fouad N. Fadel partnered together for the promotion of pharmaceuticals as Agents for F.Hoffmann La Roche – Switzerland. However in 1957, Mr. Fouad N. Fadel passed away and Mr. Toufic N. Fadel replaced him.
In 1974, Mr. Emile Chaoui sold his shares in the Company and Mr. Toufic Fadel became the only shareholder.
1993~2007
In 1993, the sons of Mr. Toufic Fadel, Fouad and Najib, joined both Companies. The expansion outside Lebanon started in 2000 with the creation of an offshore arm named Fortrade Offshore S.A.L. The first branch office outside Lebanon was opened in Baghdad Iraq in 2000.
In 2007, Fadel Group set foot in North Africa with a representative office in Algeria to cover North Africa.
2009~2011
In 2009, it has expanded its sales efforts into Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Togo and Cameroon.
In 2010, Fadel Group assigned The Specialists Commercial Affairs Ltd. located in Riyadh - Saudi Arabia as their distributor. The Company operates a warehouse in Riyadh and focuses on the sales of ingredients for the Food, Pharma, and Personal Care industrial sector in KSA. Fadel Group conscious of its social responsibility had launched a Foundation in 2010 under the name: Fondation Fouad & Toufic Fadel whose main role among others is to assist bright and needy scholars in turning their outstanding talents and brilliant ideas into concrete business opportunities. It also finances projects with NGO’s and start-ups advancing life science and health with the potential of contributing to a better World in terms of fighting hunger and alleviating climate change.
In 2011, Fadel Group invested in a new Company called Shippers Ltd. to take care of its in-house freight forwarding and logistics functions.
2018~Nowadays
In 2018, Fadel Group has restructured its business under two main Divisions: Paper & Packaging, Ingredients & Additives reflecting its main business lines.
Consequently, it has established two trading entities in Dubai Multi Commodity Center (DMCC) fully owned by the family holding Intersource International DMCC:
Fortrade Trading DMCC to run Paper & Packaging activities - Chemifine DMCC to run Ingredients & Additives activities.
In 2020, the Head Office operation has also shifted its location from Beirut to Dubai to be closely managing the UAE-based subsidiaries.
Starting 2021, Fadel Group has planned a European set-up in the Netherlands under FORWEST BV to promote private-label business with multinational firms on various markets under its two main Divisions.
